Why was I charged a temporary hold amount, and how does the refund process work?

Why was I charged 10 EUR for my power bank rental, and when will it be refunded?

When renting a power bank with Brick, you may notice a charge of 10 EUR applied to your payment method. This is a temporary authorization or pre-authorization hold, not a final charge. Below, we explain the purpose of this charge, the refund process, and how to verify the refund.

What is the 10 EUR charge?

The 10 EUR charge is a temporary authorization placed at the start of your rental. It serves as a deposit to verify your payment method and ensure sufficient funds are available. This charge is not the final rental fee and will be adjusted based on your actual usage.

  • For example, if your rental fee is 1 EUR for 30 minutes, the remaining 9 EUR from the temporary hold will be refunded to your account after the rental ends.

When will the 10 EUR be refunded?

The temporary authorization is automatically released once your rental ends and the power bank is returned. The refund typically appears in your bank account within 4–7 business days, depending on your bank’s processing times.

  • If your bank or payment provider takes longer, the refund may take up to a week to reflect in your account.

How can I verify the refund?

To confirm whether the 10 EUR is a temporary hold or a final charge, follow these steps:

  1. Check your banking transaction details: Temporary holds often appear as "pending" or "authorization" and will disappear once released.

  2. Look for the final rental fee: If the 10 EUR hold has been replaced by the actual rental fee (e.g., 2 EUR for 1 hour), the remaining amount has been refunded.

  3. Contact your bank: If the hold still appears after 7 business days, your bank can provide more details on the processing status.

Common Scenarios

Duplicate Charges

If you notice multiple 10 EUR charges, these are likely duplicate temporary authorizations. These will also be refunded within the standard timeline.

Short Rentals

Even for short rentals (e.g., 30 minutes), the 10 EUR hold applies. The final charge will reflect your actual usage, and the remaining amount will be refunded.

Unreturned Devices

If the power bank is not returned within 5 days, the temporary hold may be converted into a purchase fee. Returning the device may make you eligible for a refund.

What to Do If the Refund Is Delayed

If the refund does not appear in your account after 7 business days:

  1. Verify the transaction details with your bank.

  2. Contact Brick customer support for further assistance.

By understanding the temporary charge policy and refund process, you can ensure a smooth rental experience with Brick.
